| Continued from The Kuki-Zomi Conflice: A Synopsis The main reason transforming the most peaceful district in Manipur into a killing field of unprecedented size and horror was sparked off by the butchering of 10 innocent civilians at Saikul village in CCPur Sub-Div. of CCPur Dist. militants of the KNF on the evening of the 24th June,1997. Till then, the entire dist. of CCPur was peaceful and the only "safe haven for Kuki refugees" and the homeless Kuki women & children found peace, solace and food there. The Kuki refugees found emotional and social comfort because of the truth that the Kuki-Thadous & the Zomis are one & the same socially & ethnically knitted by common culture and traditions. 1. KUKI HOMELAND DEMAND: Following the outbreak of the Kuki-Naga feud assuming total war proportions the Kukis were presumably induced to feel the need for Kuki Homeland and a foothold to garner a public support without, however defining that territorial jurisdiction the so-called Kuki homeland is to incorporate. What is more, the predominant tribal communities of CCPur Dist. and for that matter the entire southern zone of Manipur where major tribal communities are rootedfor ages-like theHmars,Vaipheis,Simtes,Zous,Gangtes,Koms, Mizo domiciles, the Tedim-Chin and the Paites were not consulted towards the creation of the Kuki Homeland. Till now the Zomis thought that Kuki Homeland was another name for the creation of Sadar Hill Dist. consisting of parts of Senapati Dist. in Manipur state,and the Zomis did not take serious view of it. With a predetermined mindset to commit acts of agression on the Zomis and to take them by surprise, the KNF struck on the defenceless Zomi villages one after another. Not only were the villagers taken by surprise,the administration too was in awe of the surprised yet unprovoked agression on the Zomi-Paite villagers,Therefore the Govt. did not provide minimum security protection to a handful of victimised villagers. Simultaneously with arms agression- with ready weapons supplied by the Govt.-which was originally intended for countering the disbanded Naga insurgents & Manipur valley underground elements the KNF raided the Paite villages as their first target;and further implication of the other tribes cannot be ruled out. False propaganda were floated by the KNF to get sympathy of the peaceful refugees who migrated from Ukhrul,Chandel,Sadar Hills and Imphal Dist. and worked them up to hate the Paite-Zomi who earlier gave them alms and soccour. Since things have come to such a past the Zomis' organisation have no other alternative but to acquire and formulate self-defence system while refraining from acts of offensive or counter-offensive whatsoever. The concept of the Zomis and the aspiration of the ZRO is to extend the sphere of influence of the Indian Republic by creating Zogam across International boundaries as is aptly reported by Oinam Sunil in the North East Telegraph on the 16th June, 1997. 2. THE WAR-MONGER THADOU-KUKIS PROVOKE CONFLICTS: Tracing back to the criminal history of the Thadou-Kukis, everyone knows they are war mongers. Everywhere they go, they create troubles,disrupt peace and have a social tendency of restive crime. That is why, Thadou-Kukis are hated by other fellow tribes. On the contrary, the Paites are peace loving,charitable and have cultivating the social virtue of the spirit of 'altruism' in their relationship with its fellow tribes within the sphere of social, economic, political and trade activities. That is the contrast. It is evident from the following Kuki-Thadou aggressive were in living memory alone: i) Kuki against the Hmars 1960-61 ii) Kuki against the Nagas 1992 till date iii) Kuki against the Tamils (at Moreh) 1995(?) iv) Kuki against Paite-Zomis As of now 3. KUKIS ARE AGGRESSIVE IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO INFLUENCE CCPUR: The main reason and motivating force behind succeddive attempts at armed attacks on CCPur town and its sub-urban areas by the KNF is to control the populace and subjuguate its economic and commercial turnover and extort its share of revenue at its terms & conditio0ns to enhance its fire power in the fadhion of the mafia king of the 'Golden Triangle', and id not for influencing the town community towards furthering the creation of a Kuki Homeland propaganda after they have partly influenced the Moreh town and controlled a piece of land that spans along the National Highway No.39 between Motbung & Kangpokpi villages to be precise. 4. KUKIS ARE GREEDY AND WANT TO DOMINATE TRADE IN CCPUR (LAMKA): Dominance of Lamka town is the one factor for which KNF resorted to enumerable false propaganda to influence the traders. In order that the towm might be controlled, the major tribes like the Paites, Hmars, Vaipheis and Meeteis have to be subjuguated first and the same barbarous treatment be meted onto other minority communities. Though the Paites constitute the majority community,they alone do not command trade & commerce in the town. The Meeteis,Hmars and the Lusheis including the Kukis themselves account for the structure of the rollling trade & commerce at will, the whole communal clashes is brought about by it because of resistance from other trading communities. As a matter of fact the Kuki insurgents have already control over Moreh town and the lucrative international trade across the border with Myanmar. At the same time they too have Sadar Hills Dist. under its influence and control hinterlands like Motbung & Kangpokpi townships. Targetting of trade centres therefore are one of its major agenda in the KNF's scheme of things;not so much as is of its political aspirations. This end in view, they apply criminal force in the fashion of dacoits and sea pirates of old. On the other hand, the ZRA have been rendering unstinted yeoman service to the society irrespective of tribe,caste or community or religious followings. The ZRA have ventured upon eradication of malignant diseases like malaria and the cultural curse like drug-addiction, and tries its best to control the spread of AIDS;and other related social evils and vices with a missionary zeal. 5. INNOCENT ZOMI YOUTHS WERE KIDNAPPED AND DONE TO DEATH: The well prepared KNF started the scheme of provocative kidnapping by taking 2 Paite boys namely HAUCHINTHANG (19) S/o (L) Thangkhanneng and CHINSUANMUNG (19) S/o Goukhojam of Mission Compound village on May 6, 1997 at about 4PM from their village. Then again the KNF kidnapped 2 other Paite boys namely KHAMSUANMUNG (23) S/o L>Thangkhochin,New Lamka and CHINSUANTHANG s/o P.Nemzakhup of Geljang village on the 14th of June, 1997 at about 8PM from Geljang village.All the 4 innocent youths were murdered in cold blood and their mortal remains were never returned to their parents inspite of repeated appeals made to the militants by the families and clan elders. They were school going boys no involvement in politics or in underground activities. They were murdered simply because they were Paites. Issued by: | |
